Pentagon thing-a-ma-jig

[EdistoDigger]

Found this yesterday while hunting a old bridge crossing which was also the site of a skirmish during the civil war. Is this from a uniform or some type of leather decoration ? Thanks in advance for looking!

Leather, and a nice one with the two integral mounts still intact.
