I can't read much from your picture but the bottom lettering does look like it might spell PERFECT. Is there any chance the lettering that you read as GROTH might actually be KYNOCH? Kynoch & Company, Birmingham England made a KYNOCH PERFECT shotgun shell. Circa 1910's.
