Hi, found this great forum on a search and had a coin I needed to ask about.
I found this some years ago when a yard was being dug up after knocking down an old house. The closest thing I can reference this to was a masonic coin I found on this site using the search. Other than that, I have not found anything on it. It seems to be silver, not steel. Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Paul

EDIT: That is not rust on the coin, it's just tarnished and a magnet does not stick to it.

It looks like a masonic penny of some sort. It is different than any I have though. The back reminds me of a Shekel from the first century CE.

Thank you for the information Doug. I looked up Masonic Pennies and older Masonic symbols and you did hit on something, the older symbols seem to refer to Herod and much older than standard Masonic coins. I am wondering if someone didn't put a new stamp on the other side of the coin. Just a thought but I will keep searching too.

Thanks again,

Paul

Here it is with a complete explanation. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,27312.0.html

It's a Masonic chapter membership token. The design imitates a Jewish shekel of Year 2 of Simon Maccabaeus.

H.T.W.S.S.T.K.S. is said to be the mark of the order's ancient Grand Master and to stand for, "Hiram The Widow's Son Sent To King Solomon."

"R.A.M." is for Royal Arch Mason.

Thanks to everyone for clearing this mystery up. Seems it's not worth much either way but definitely an odd piece to have. I will likely stick around here for all the interesting things on this site and to learn some things myself. I do have a few more things I may be asking about again as well.

Thanks to all again,

Paul :icon_thumleft:

exact value...I don't know but they are quite collectible. A Mason in the community where that token is from would undoubtedly be willing to pay something for it.

I found some similar on Ebay that were for 49.00 or 54.00 but they looked newer than this one and had no date stamp. I am currently looking into collectors. I do live in Michigan and since this is from Michigan, I may have an easier time finding someone who deals with these. If or when I find more information on it, I will definitely post it here to fill in answers to questions others may have on it as well.

Thanks,

Paul
