:Permission Seeking: The saga continues....

Hey guys, Its been awhile since I've been on here just the same old usual story busy and not enough time to detect. Finally the past few days I made some time to get out and door knock oh, let me just tell you it's getting harder and harder each time to get permission. A lot of people in the hobby, and in my area especially a lot of people door knock. In the seven years I've been doing this, this year by far has been the hardest to get permission. Okay long story over got on a few places over two days and manage some half-decent finds. Got three Mercury dimes, 1 Indian, one Chinese coin, a handful of wheats, and some pretty cool relics including a couple flat buttons. I'm going to try not to get discouraged with the way larger amount of no's I got and press on. There's got to be some areas that people haven't already hit.....

Sorry to hear about that but seems like you still did very well Ive been out 4 to 5 times recently nothing good.. Well done hope your luck with permissions improves Tommy

Way to go Cjon. I hear you. More and more places have been hit. One time last year I had an old neighborhood pegged to knock at. I didn’t get many answers and when I finally did, the lady was standoffish. She told me someone had already been through and detected the neighborhood recently. I asked if she’d be open to letting me try her yard too and she said no because he left the place a mess.

Isn’t that great? 🤦🏼*♂️ one sloppy detectorist ruined the entire neighborhood for anyone else.

Oh I hear you, I had a beautiful looking place that the owner was super nice but didn't give me permission because the last person he did destroyed his yard he said. Some people don't realize how sloppy they are and what it does for the hobby.

I hear you about the drought of sites in your area and cold-call door knocking can be intimidating especially if others in your area are doing the same. I'll often approach the home/landowner with an atlas or map in hand and discuss the history of their property or of the area they're living in. I talk about how the items that have been lost in the ground are part of our history and they deserve to be saved for future generations to better appreciate those who came before us.

If that fails, then I offer to give the homeowner any gold or silver jewelry that I find as a thank you for their generosity.
As we all know, gold and silver jewelry doesn't pop up all that often on older residential sites.

Love this 'D' watch fob... mainly because it's my initial.
