That's a nice comb. Looks military from the archor on it. Maybe it was just a company logo but I doubt it. That's one durable comb. They don't make them like that anymore.

Nice find continued luck on the rest of your outings. HH Jer

Jarman, pretty sure it's called a touch mark. But no clue yet as to who's it is. Neat comb BTW

Where is the "master identifier"...Buckram? He is one person that has been VERY helpful to many of the members of this forum.

Good luck as it looks like a nice find!

Jarman,

I started digging using the touchmark as a starting point, and first what I found is based on English silvermarks, it could possibly be from Birmingham, UK.? But, the info on th same page referring specifically to pewter does not reference the same mark so I'm unsure.? I did find info leading to the Worshipful Company of Pewterers, the Guild for Pewter since the 1600's in England.? (http://www.pewterers.org.uk/home/index.html)? From here they offer a free id service, simply send them a pic with as much info regarding find location and description as possible and they will do their best to id it for you.? (http://members.aol.com/pewtrsocty/identification.htm)

Great find, and keep us updated!

Hey Kev,Never heard back from the Pewter Society on the comb. Done some search myself but without any luck. Thanks for asking.

mvSWAT, I thought the same but it was the anchor touchmark that threw me. Thanks.

Hi yeah I thought equine too, but ||||| the anchor made me think naval.

rope was used to caulk planks on wooden ships but before it could be used it had to be untwisted and the individual
strands teased apart.

Hmm wot do you think

nice one
