Found what apears to be a pewter hair comb at an early 1800,s home site on a wall rafter of the old house. It has a anchor mark on it.Can anyone help me with information. Thanks for your help.
That's a nice comb. Looks military from the archor on it. Maybe it was just a company logo but I doubt it. That's one durable comb. They don't make them like that anymore.
Nice find continued luck on the rest of your outings. HH Jer
I started digging using the touchmark as a starting point, and first what I found is based on English silvermarks, it could possibly be from Birmingham, UK.? But, the info on th same page referring specifically to pewter does not reference the same mark so I'm unsure.? I did find info leading to the Worshipful Company of Pewterers, the Guild for Pewter since the 1600's in England.? (http://www.pewterers.org.uk/home/index.html)? From here they offer a free id service, simply send them a pic with as much info regarding find location and description as possible and they will do their best to id it for you.?
