Greetings Everyone. Been spending time at a spot connected to prehistory and up to the Rev. war and after. Several historical figures lived on or near the site. Finds there have been flint points, trade silver,Rev war relics, and even a Lg. cent or two. My last hunt there produced what I believe to be a pewter tobacco pipe. I have little doubt that's what it is but my resources are limited to what I can find on the internet which is pretty much nothing. It's quite fragile and delicate after being buried for so long. Lengthwise the bowl has an octagon style and I think the ring in the middle would have acted like a sort of heat sink. Posting here in hopes some ( or even one ) of you fine people has seen a pipe, trade or otherwise, similar to this one. Merry Christmas and HH in 2013 !

Neat finds!!! its really something of what they made there pipes from, congrats

It's definitely a possibility, as I have seen pewter pipes in some books.

I've found a lead pipe at a Native camp outside of a 18th century trading post.......

Here you can still see the carbon inside the bowl......

If you thought smoking from pewter could be harmful, imagine smoking lead!

Nice find!
Cheers,
Dave.

Awesome Job! Way to go - Great find !! Did you find it in a creek ?

This is one I found a few years ago on the Ontonagon River in Upper Michigan. I was told it dates to the 1700s.

Thanks for the reply and pix of your trade pipe Dave. Other then the angle difference between our 2 pipes quite -a-bit alike ! Still not very much info out there on these old relics :(

Hello cpc988. Found it at an Indian castle site upstate ny.

Awesome trade pipe copperpile. Is it pewter ?

Thanks. Yes it is pewter. I believe it's British, but i could be wrong. There was some mining done by the Brits in the 1770s not far from where I found this. I'd like to think it was lost by one of them.
