phallic pestle?

I would like someone to identify this object and perhaps give a (rough) appraisal, if that is possible. I dug this up in my backyard about 5 years ago washed it in water and set it on my shelf, I will try to include images. the following are the details I can give: Greenish stone, 16 3/4 inches in length, approx. 6 1/4 diameter, very smooth surface near the middle with some slightly rougher tapered ends, one end has a groove cut in it. I was told by a man in town that it was a indian phallic symbol, but I would like confirmation on this and what use it had, rolling pin? pestle? or?? Thanks to all in advance, I'll check back soon to see if anyone can id this for me. Also, I did misstate diameter, I meant circumfrence, ty.

According to your tape measure, this doesn't look like it's 6 3/4" in dia.

Maybe 2 3/4?

At nearly 17 inches it's going to be a real imaginative phallus

More than likely a rolling pin as you said.Possibly an improvised "pike cosh" as we call them...used for stunning/killing caught fish.

Probably meant circumference. I think it's a phallic pestle. Here are some examples on this page-http://www.westernartifacts.com/tools.htm scroll around there are several examples. Nice tool, I mean piece, I mean.....you know!

Thank you for the link, it does seem very similar, is very interesting. on that site the ones listed were in the $1500.00 price range..WOW! I can see how you can get addicted to treasure hunting.

So many Questions! how does one find out a approx. date on an object? Can it be attributed to any specific peoples? I found it in Tennessee while hoeing my garden, I've since moved from that house but has acres here that I now want to turn the soil on and see what if anything interesting surfaces.

I was recently given a "house" for the lumber, after asking a few old timers in the area I found it was a postal shop during the 1830's..now I want to invest in a metal detector, Lord knows what may be hiding around and beneath those planks.

lol, actually the name possibilities are endless...
as for my first "official" hunt, I think I will try my back yard, I know from talking with locals it was inhabited by nanahala and cherokee, others I assume also, In my back yard I have 3 acres, and is in a depression, which forms a creek when it rains and runs down to my pond, I think I will check the path the water flows, I know it is very rocky there compared to the surrounding landscape, so, maybe worth a shot to look down at those stones. also my son tells me there are a few small caves about 1/4 mile behind us..those will be on my list, If I find nothing I hope to at least learn from the hunting.

Learning a lot here today, now I hope that I can actually recognize uncleaned, uncovered artifacts.
Also, I've found I am gaining an appreciation for the work that must have been involved in mastering and making these items, one slip or mis-strike and so much work lost...
