Been detecting this hotel site circa (circa 1870) here in Northumberland County which sits near an abandoned railroad bed. Lots of targets, managed to dig this beauty today approximately 3 yards from the railroad bed about 6 inches deep. It's a Philadelphia & Reading Railroad lock, an older one at that. This one has no markings other than P&R. I'd say its circa to the period. I'm glad to have dug it.

That's a real great looking lock.
Probably dropped in the winter, forgotten by spring.

A great looking old Padlock - congrats !

It's up to you but ...
I've gotten very good results cleaning the old brass Locks I've found in a homemade Electrolysis Bath.
After they come out of the Electrolysis Bath -I just buffed them up with Extra Fine Steel Wool.
