PI detectors

looking to buy a very good PI detector any sugestions and/or recomendations. dont mind digging deep. things are slow with the excalibur over the winter months at the beach.

Hi Metalman,

Garrett makes a nice machine, as does White's. Fisher stopped production on their PI. If I were you I would look into the Tesoro Sand Shark. I have used all these machines and like the Tesoro. Plus it has a life time warranty which the others don't. I will get a little more depth than a Excal 1000 which I like for it's depth and discrimination. I have no experience with the J.W. Fisher PI's but know a couple that like them however I don't know what warranty they have.

if u want max depth u must stick with any of the eric foster model...........hand made in england, cost varies as to what model u want................sold by mr bill at surfscanner

then the Headhunter PI by detector pro...........goes real deep and is priced just right

then like SandMan said.............the white's surfPI Pro and both garrett models - seahunter mark II and the newer Infinium...................infinium is somewhat higher and will doulbe as gold nugget machine if u so desire (all of the eric fosters will also)

NOW THEY TELL ME THERE IS A GREAT PI MADE IN FLORIDA - CUSTOM MADE - CALLED TR - not sure, but i can get back to u on it, there was just big artilce on the other forum about it and the guy, but i hear it only will work in florida.

more info. on the TR machine i thought was like a PI - it is not, i just got this from my buddy who has one

"Max, it is not a PI it is a TR machine. This TR detector put 52 volts to the coil.. It will not penetrate the ground where any minerals are other than salt. Good for most of Florida beaches, most all of GA, NC and SC beaches but spot or beaches in those states where it is no good. Like Vero/Sebastian beaches (iron and silver oxide) will not GB there... It is strickly a specialty machine..."

Anyone have or had the Mac 1 Turbo ? Think it was produced in Florida and had the ability to put the extra power through the coil like the Aquasound (development from the Nautilus ?) and Treasure Baron with its Deep Hunter module.

I am ultra happy with my Head Hunter PI! Won't ever give it up, lots of digging deep. Nice and light and Very simple. Down side short battery life. but it is WELL worth it! If you get one you won't be unhappy!

I have a Garrett Sea Hunter MarkII which is a good beach and shallow water PI machine. Has a tremendous reputation for finding treasure and goes very deep. I haven't had it long enough to tell you any personal success stories, but I read all I could on the net before buying it and it seems to do as well as some detectors costing several hundred dollars more. Being a PI machine it has very little discrimination but will eliminate pull tabs and still pick up gold rings in the "discreet" mode according to the demo tape that came with it. It is also sealed for 200' underwater if you happen to be into scuba diving. Can't hurt to check it out. Monty

i would like to thank everyone for there replies. still undecided as to what i'm gonna buy. I like the garrett sea hunter mark II because you can change the coil size. I like the tesoro sand shark with the lifetime warranty. I like the headhunter PI because its 18 volts, seems like it might go deeper. and finally the whites surf pi pro i like the weighted coil and also because i have a dfx and beach hunter ID which has never let me down. I,m leaning towards the garrett but still not sure.well anyway i just wanted to say thank you and sorry it took me so long to get back to you all for the information everyone provided

ordered whites surf pi pro with weighted coil. hopefully will get it by the weekend so i can try it out in the wet sand. I,m sure i will not be disappointed. will let you all know how it works out. thanks again
