Pics question - close-ups?

I have a Canon Powershot A560 digital camera. It has a close-up function, but not good enough to take a clear pic of any coin. Anybody have any tips for me? Maybe someone else with a A560 ?

Macro Photography can be a bit challenging but easy enough to pick up the basics. If you don't have a macro lense you can still get some great shots using a normal lenses. Remember depth of field. If you have the background blurred out you will get more contract on the subject. You still want to be about 3 feet away because it's all in the size setting & quality settings on your camera. It might look like a small picture in your camera but as soon as you open the frame on your computer it is going to be massive, 2000+ pixels.

Your issues might be that you are getting too close. Can you give me some more information?

Remember that any movement even slight will distort the Pic !!! I shake a little when holding the camera tr using a mini tripod you will be amazed at the results also look in you manual to find out how to set the macro mode!!!! then practice with it and the tripod!!!! HH Chug

Oops almost forgot 1 Important Item Use optical zoom only!!! Turn off the digital zoom it only enlarges the pixel of the original image the camera sees!!!

The tips given so far have been good ones. The last poster pointed out the biggest thing, in my opinion. Camera shake is a KILLER. Also, try to get lots of light onto the coin, because the brighter the coin is, the faster the shutter speed, and the less time their is for the digital sensor to catch movement.

Or, if you're really serious you could go the route I did. I have a Nikon D5000 and a Sigma 150mm dedicated Macro lens along with a homemade copy stand to hold the camera steady. Here's a few example shots from that setup:
