🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Piece of swirl wire.

Found in woods on both colonial and civil war site. There is a hole on each side. Thanks in advance.

With the 2 small holes, I would say it is either a repair strap, or a lighter weight “fusible link” for a lightning rod. It could be inserted into the drop either way.

looked up lightning rod wire and nothing resembles this piece. It is solid with no bend at all. I found a ton of flat buttons in the area that I found this piece, without any newer items. Thanks for help.

Not all lightning rod conductors were wire. Some looked very much like twisted metal. Solid, not stranded, with a twist design.
Attached is an actual photo from a piece removed from the roof of a coach house. These ran from the roof spike to the ground connector in several places on the building. I’d guess around 1910 in Iowa.

I was actually thinking cleaning bore for pistol where it could be pulled back and forth with a couple strings attached. What bore would be 3/8 inch. Not really a gun guy. Probably off on this one.
