Pipeline Trench <<MORE SILVER>> & a pigeon gets best find
Well as Dad was away & I don't drive. I had to cycle to the pipeline trench. I thought I would take a picture to show you all, so took the camera (which came in handy later!!).
I found 3 hammered silver coins which never happens unless there is two of us. I was on a roll & was aiming for my 4 which I suspected was in the area I was doing. When a racing pigeon started following me about. As it was a wet & windy day I assumed it had be blown off course & got lost. I knew I had to try & catch it as the rings on its legs would lead me to the owner. I got low on the ground & kept still trying to move my hand close to it, but it was too worried that I like pigeon pie. So I thought at least I can get a picture of it which will make a good story. Right after the picture I managed to jump it whilst it wasn't looking. Next problem was carrying a spade, metal detecter, camera, wet weather gear & Pigeon on a bike. I will update later...... I have now contacted the owner who asked me to feed & water it over night & let it go tomorrow.
Coins - Farthing, new 1/2 penny, 17th century token
2 Roman bronzes (scrappy)
Edward I Penny (1272-1307) - Durham mint (Rare mint, most are London & this is better than the 1 other 1 I have)
Cut Halfpenny of 'Bad' King John 1199-1216, Moneyer Davi, mint York. Type 4c - RARE
Cut Halfpenny of Henry III short cross (1216-47) In case your not familar with British Coinage - they used to give change by cutting a penny into half (halfpenny) & quarters (Farthings). It was the weight in silver which was important not the coin.
The horse shoe or Oxen shoe, not sure yet was on the top of the orange layer of clay which means its at least Medieval.
Eyes only - Neolithic flint scrapper (7000BC), roman pot piece, & the biggest glass bottle base I have ever seen & I use to dig bottles.
