Can someone tell me approx.when round balls were replaced by cartridges ? Found a nice little round ball at a site and was wondering if it could be used to bracket the age.
Thanks

The Henry rifle of 1860, and the Spencer rifle of 1862 might have been the transition point. There followed an international scramble of innovation and development of metallic cartridges.
