Looks like a tombac civilian button...Late 1700's...they were made with a ton of different designs and patterns. Always a welcomed find.

I briefly looked into your suggestion online and it seems very likely. From the photos I saw, It looked like many of the revolutionary war era "civilian flat buttons" in pewter. One picture I saw looked almost identical! That would be great. It was my first find. How can I find out what it is made of? Any more info would be great! Thanks in advance.

yup, civilian flat button, but at least yours has a neat design on it. I only seem to find the plain jane ones.
