Please help expand my buckle knowledge

Got this at my colonial/early American site yesterday. I assume it's a shoe or knee buckle part as it is rather ornate and looks to have been plated. Any help appreciated

Good call. Probably right. I've pulled so many buckle pieces from this site I just assumed it was another. No complete ones though.

The axis pin is broken and the only break or worn portion might be the center gizmo ( for a lack of a better description)

I'm not an expert, TNet has a member that goes by the screen name of Buckleboy.

But I guess it could be half of a 2 piece Victorian buckle. It looks like the other half could have fit inside what looks like an inlay puzzle that I've pointed out on this photo. What are the dimension?

It appears to be intact with no pieces broken off. It is about 1" square
