Please could you help me to identify this rock. Found veins of this on my mine. Many thanks in advance if you can help. I posted this originally in error in the wrong forum section. IMG_0534.webp

Looks like quartz, with iron staining.

Thanks guys, was found in a vein at one of my mine claims. Loads of it, some also green in colour, will try to post some of the green next time I go out.

Was it in a vein, or are there full veins of just this mineral?

Full veins of just this, not sure how deep, stoopped digging when I found no traces of the yellow stuff....... Think this could be of any value in bulk? What would the polished version come out as? Many thanks in advance

It's likely a Quartz vein that has been colored by other minerals/inclusions. You should do some tests on it; hardness, specific gravity, etc.

One thing I can say is it is harder than normal quartz. How do you do specific gravity on a rock? I know how to do gold tests but rock is a new creature for me

Cool rock!

Almost reminds me of like a Kimberlite solution?.....Grey and/or green mud wrapped with iron stained Quartz rock? Crack it open, look for Diamonds.....Check the vein material for diamonds? You say the rock is harder than normal quartz? Will the rock cut glass?.....Stranger things have happened before.....Just sayin?.....Be fun identifying it anyway! Talk with a Geologist! He will know! :laughing7::diamond-ring::thumbsup:
Also, if you capture his picture and then blow it up yourself, sure looks like solidified grey mud on the bottom? The quartz looks "too shiny", almost like it was melted? By volcanic activity? Or it is not quartz?.....All speculation, but fun to speculate anyway.....Good luck!

Thanks, I will get it checked out. When I have time I will get more samples of differing colours and post them up. The area Im in is not known as a diamond area.

Easy to guess quartz, but I've seen gem minerals that looked like that (sorry, don't remember what they were....). If the physical character of the occurrence is like a typical quartz vein, then definitely quartz since gem minerals aren't going to form in that same way.

Hello,
Can someone please help me to identify the yellow substance on the rock I have pictured in this post. I’m sort of teetering between pyrite and “gold” of course, lol
Thanks,
