I found this button about a half mile from the railroad between Jackson, MS and Memphis. It has intertwined initials that look like MVR and 13 stars. The backmark is LEON GODCHAUX N O. The shank is missing and may have been steel as there may be rust where the shank was. It measures 23 mm and appears to be a 3 piece button. Any help in identifying would be appreciated. This is my first post ever so please forgive any errors.

Welcome and nice find! I couldn't find an exact match but it may be a uniform button for the Yazoo & Mississippi Valley Railroad. The letters seem to work for that.

Thanks guys. The initials on the button could easily be YMVR. And the Leon Godchaux in New Orleans has to be the right guy.

Warterbury also manufactured this button. They have it listed under career uniform as MVR (entangled). Entangled letter logos were commonly used in that time period. 4123 - Waterbury Button
