ORIGINAL INDIAN WAR MODEL 1881 SHAKO HELMET PLUME HOLDER ASSEMBLY

I think this was part of a Shako hat? Can anyone tell me what period or if it was part of Shako hat? It's about 5" long. I found a hat ventilator next to it. Thanks
