My mother in law used to live directly across the street from the Plymouth Rock + the Mayflower. From what I've seen of Plymouth harbor, it's all silted over. Still; there's gotta be SOME possibilities there. I'd be doing the old stuff; parks, churches, schools, ect.
Are you anywhere near Nantasket? there's a promising beach, me thinks...
Go to the library and research, research, research! ;)

I have a house in West Yarmouth, I find the small little beaches the best for finding stuff. Try some dead end roads near the ocean and alot have small beaches at the end. Alot are not even marked on a map.

Go to Cape Cod and detect at the North side. I'm not sure if that area is National park right now. :coffee2:
