So initially thinking that it was a pressure gauge of some sort, with the help of you fine folks I find out its a pocket watch...

Now I have found a patent number and symbol... Its hard to completely make out the numbers.. but from what I can read its say "Patented 6659" Also has a horse shoe symbol... Can anyone help me date this puppy? Get some more information..? Ive tried looking online and couldn't find anything...

I have had tons of cases and don't ever remember a horseshoe on a silveroid case. Taking a guess just on design? late 1800's into the real early 1900's.

Looks kind of like an Vacheron and Constantin symbol. Maybe start looking in that direction for early pocket watches and see if the case matches, its a long shot. I think most were silver or gold though.. I don't remember this stuff anymore. :laughing7:

No clue, just taking guess's.:laughing7:

The watch makers usually didn't make cases. The numbers you see are for the case, but it could still be a clue for the age.

Use one of those paper and pencil scratching to find out what the letters are

As far as I can tell it just has the numbers I listed and the word patented. I will measure later and post it!

Interesting that the horseshoe is pointing down. That's usually the symbol of bad luck.......which I guess it was for that watch! :laughing7:

Measured to be 3 quarters of an inch deep!

Seems pretty deep for a watch
if its not silver, or a gold case you need to rethink
go back to pressure gauge idea

Maybe some more photos will help us. Does the back come off? Most watches I've seen have a removable back. How does the crystal/lense/front cover attach? Is/was the knob on the top functional? Any holes going into the case?

Could have been a carriage clock. They were larger than pocket watches.
