This is an antique English porcelain serving dish with lid. The piece is hand painted with applied transfer patterns. It bears the retailers mark of Richard Briggs, Boston on the bottom. It was manufactured by The Worcester Royal Porcelain Co. England. and it's dimensions are 5" tall x 7" long x 4" wide.

Can anyone give me an idea of the age, value, as well as, any information on the Boston retailer would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking to sell this piece too.

Thank you very much,
David

might be a "modern " remake in a "old fashioned" way

Thanks very much for the information. I've handled a lot of antique porcelain in my time, but I feel pretty confident in saying that this is not a reproduction.

I did find a directory listing stating that Richard Briggs was doing business in Boston in 1860, but nothing more. I have a feeling this piece probably dates from close to that period, I can't be sure though.

Thanks again,
Dave

Very nice! Here are a few Boston directory ads - not sure if you have them:

1861

upon farther looking -- your piece is odd it that theres no "crown" with it -- 1862 is when the name "royal worcester porcelain" was used * -- by 1875 the standard stamp was set -- look under "fact sheet" at the web site * the round seal is there but no "crown" with it -- thus your piece might be from 1862 to 1875 era *

Wow! Thanks very much for this information Ivan. I haven't checked out the UK website yet but I will in the next few moments.

Thank you so much for the business listing information. I do have the first one but not the others.

Thanks again for your assistance!

Hello Folks
first time back in a few years. The piece is definately in the 1860 area.Any time you have a cartouche with a belt & buckle oval around it you can be almost certain it dates C1860. Nice piece but value is very low these days for porcelain, however $100.00 to $150.00. Ten years ago about $250.00

Thank you very much for your post and for the great information. I've always had the feeling that this piece was mid-19th century.

Thanks again, :hello:
