Can anybody help me with identifying this sign. It sold for $4000 at a local auction today. I do know the maker and all that. I spoke with the guy who bought it and he said this was only the 2nd one he had ever seen. The only one he knew of was cracked and sold for $25,000. Has anybody ever seen this sign or know anything value-wise about it? Thanks

I did some checking around, and could not find that particular sign. Looks like you scored a rare one. Congrats!

Can't say I have seen that one. If it sold for 2,000 bucks at an auction I will take your word for it. I am a collector of old signage, notice my avatar pic is of my rare 48" double sided Sinclair Aircraft/ Gasoline sign worth a few dollars.

I didn't buy it, someone else did at the auction. I just was trying to figure out what the thing was worth. Can't find a single thing about it online.

Look at the rings loops on the sign . Dead give away on age, any sign.

I don't have any other pictures of it. Since I didn't buy it, I can't take anymore pictures of it. Its over on the other side of the state in St. Louis now. The sign is pre 1920s.

The Lemp family started brewing in St. Louis in 1840, It was one of the largest breweries in the country at one time. Lemp made Falstaff beer, and they eventually sold that name and went out of business. That particular sign would date between 1896 when the shield logo was introduced and probably 1903 when it became Falstaff. I have heard of Lemp beer, but I've never seen any of their advertising or anything that is pre-Falstaff era. I'm quite sure that's an incredibly rare sign. I don't know about 25,000+ rare, but I guess to the right collector it's possible. I'm willing to bet the buyer got a pretty good deal though.

Here's a link to some history of Lemp Breweries : Falstaff Beer History

Wow I can't thank you enough for finding the actual page the guy created. I really want to know what he's going to do with it.
