✅ SOLVED Possible cast iron furniture leg found at War of 1812 soldier's home

All, I’ve been detecting the former home site of an officer who served during the War of 1812. When he wasn’t serving in the military or as a civic leader, he worked as a blacksmith. He built the home in the early 1800s and lived there until his death in 1850. The home has been occupied on and off up until the 2000s.

Near the home I found what I think is a cast iron furniture leg based on its shape and the scrolling channel in the middle of the first picture. It measures about 4 ¼” by 2 ½” and is ¼” thick on the edge.

Any help w/ ID and/or age would be appreciated.

It reminds me of a vintage school desk leg . but that is just a guess. View attachment 1859293

ticndig, thanks! I'll compare it to some school desk legs I found last year. Although there was a school on the property - it was quite a distance from the home. That said, when the school building was demolished in the 1920s, maybe some of the desks were brought to the home.

After doing more research the concensus is late 1800s.
