Snow is starting to melt after last week's dump so I hit a corn field that looked promising. Late start and an early finish but still a couple decent finds! Brass era Chevy piece, an Indian Head penny with great patina, always a welcome find in the great white north.

Find of the day is the medallion which I'm having trouble identifying. Soldier looks like a union soldier...could it be a Civil war commemorative medallion? Thanks for looking!

Congrats on the finds! The soldier on the medallion is not in a Union Army uniform. His clothing appears more towards the War of 1812 or the Revolutionary War but the medallion definitely does not appear to be that old. Maybe it belonged to someone in a Society for relatives of Revolutionary War or War of 1812 Veterans.

Added: Well, maybe I am wrong because I found this one on eBay but there is really no info with the Listing.

I found a link through militaryauction.org, led to ebay link below...

I'll be surprised if that's actually civil war though as ebayers are notoriously wrong in their listings regarding CW items.

looks like you had a great time. nice finds !!

Looks like an old Chevy lap belt buckle.

Cool find.

Could well be part of a G.A.R. post war medallion.
(Many were made from captured cannon.)

Those are cool finds!

Nicely done, and all the best,

Lanny

Nice find. Love mystery items!

The image of liberty on the obverse seems to be a copy of the Barber silver coins. They were made from about 1892 to 1915. Maybe same time period? Spanish American War? Gary

Very interesting finds Patrick!

I'm thinking your medallion is the drop portion of either a US Civil War or Spanish American War Commemorative Medal.
Did you check the outside rim to see if there's any writing on it?

Thanks everyone...nothing definitive so far but I'm sure someone will know.

Nothing on the rim...

Congrats Romeo, cool finds!

The image seems to represent and commemorate a man carrying a Pennsylvania rifle and wearing a large knife or perhaps tomahawk in his belt. That, the citizen soldier, is the very essence of the National Guard. Might not commemorate a war or a battle but a concept?

Best wishes!

Good reasoning...National Guard and Our Nation's Defenders makes sense...another avenue to research.

Congratualtions on the nice hunt! :occasion14:
