Hey guys, I was going through some of my old finds and stumbled across this... I found it where a confederate camp was located. I have found various civil war relics from this site. This place has been constantly occupied for the past 150 years and is currently a park. When I dug this a year ago I almost threw it away because I thought it was junk but held onto it after I realized it wasn't trash. Any idea as to what it may be? Just curious and still learning more every day lol thanks guys.

Sorry for the sideways pics...

It looks like the eagle is perched on a helmet maybe so it probably isn't civil war. I can't find anything searching insignia though.

I agree that it looks like the eagle is on top of a WWI helmet. I'd keep it for sure.

That's what I noticed!! I tried looking up ww1 insignia and couldn't find anything but I have found civil war and ww1 relics. I was a civil war camp at one time but I think it was used for military parade grounds and possibly boy scouts girl scouts as well.

I suspect what's under the eagle is a (world) globe, not a helmet. An eagle standing on a globe is part of the New York Stare Seal. Most of the NY insignia shows the eagle having "drooped" wings... but a RAISED-wings eagle (like yours) standing on a globe with a ring encircling the lower part of the globe is on a civil war era New York State Militia regimental button (the New York Lancers, 1850s). It is shown as button NY-82 in the button-book by Alphaeus H. Albert. So, PERHAPS your insignia is a New York State related insignia. It could be a civil war era one, but it could also be from a somewhat later time, such as the World War One era.

That's funny cannonball guy because I actually found a new York state seal officers cuff button about twenty feet away a couple of weeks ago
