Possible cloak clasp?

Found around the battle of devils backbone in arkansas. Has in writing "A.P DADLEY " under that it says "patent" under that it has a few letters that are unintelligible then "otean ru" then a few more unintelligible letters.

I wonder if its a cloak clasp, or any the items listed besides the sails, cant be a thimble.... and surely its not a gilt toy... is the year 1859 seem about right?
