Possible Cupstone?

While hunting for fossils in South Jersey, I saw this chert stone through the water. Is is possibly a broken cupstone? The circumference around the side is 10.5 cm and around the top and bottom is 9 cm, and the height 1.5 cm.

Looks natural to me. I know of a creek full of small flint balls and they often look like that. Gary

Looks like spalls from exposure to intense heat, followed by many years of weathering.

It's pretty cool whatever it is. Are you sure it's chert? it has the look of soapstone to me.

If not inferred from my above comment: natural. Peaches, I believe it's chert. I've never known steatite to spall like that, which is one of the primary reasons it was used for cooking stones. Heating chert directly is much like building a fire on concrete, gitcho ass hurt!

Thank you! It looked like the cupstone on the Wikipedia article if the side part was broken off. The bottom is clearly chert with conchoidal fractures, so I thought maybe it was a broken version of the Wikipedia cupstone
