Hey y'all so I just stumbled upon this rock in the flowerbed and couldn't help but notice a very interesting green color in the middle of the rock. The color certainly is not coming from any kind of moss or vegetation. Could this be a trace of Emerald/beryl? Thanks!

Green could be do to chlorite in quartz quite common

Not sure you're gonna get a reliable answer to that question. Such pieces are tricky.
One idea is to whack of a small piece and test the specific gravity on a good scale, or have a gemologist do it. Small pieces require very sensitive scales.

Hard to say....I don't think it is chlorite in quartz....it is usually a darker green and has a granular or cloudy appearance (see photo) my guess would be green calcite or olivine.

What county of N.C. did you find this in? It could very well be a green Beryl.

As said its very difficult to determine specimens like that. The mineral is a compact, massive, formation and the materials likely a bit mixed. Keep an eye out for other material is what I would do so as to see if there are anymore definitive specimens around.

That is a very cool specimen MaryRod. Welcome to the forum.
