I found this nickel at my grandmas. It is from 1974 and I’m pretty bad condition, however it seems like it wasn’t stamped properly. The border goes over the text in some areas where it is hard to see any lettering. Any idea if it’s significant or worth anything?

Yes, indeed. A dryer coin. The term includes any machine that can cause a similar wear pattern.

Time for more coffee.

1974 saw some fairly out of control inflation.
Maybe that's what damaged the coin? :)

My standard reply for "money" that has seen better days.

Set in on top of an undamaged nickel to compare diameter. As mentioned, I suspect the edge has been hammered.

I think someone started to make a ring out of it as the edge has been hammered as cudamark states.

I found one of these crude rings, made from a US nickel, about 5,6 years ago tectin'.
