I've never seen one like it that I can remember but my thought is it may be English, just based on the lion. Is there a makers mark on the back? That could help id the country of origin

It appears to be a stick pin. Maybe for a lapel or a ladie's hat. I've not seen any official military pins/badges with a stick pin attachment.

We need to see the back for a better ID but for some reason it looks mid-19th C to my eye.

I also think it's British or Canadian.

If it's military it's not US I can tell you for sure.

Usually if I dont see a back pic I just move on because it gets tiring having to request a back photo. A picture of the back might help even if you dont see a manufacturers mark. We may be able to date it by the hinge. I realize its not your item but is really necessary and its in the rules of this forum. Thanks.
