actually im pretty sure that place is still there. Its in disrepair and no longer open but i just watched a Qed documentary that covered this place.

The ship of the mountains was only a little more than a hour away from me.
It had been closed down for a number of years, but I'm almost positive that
it was destroyed by a suspicious fire at least 5 years ago.

I can confirm the "Ship Hotel" was burned by arsonists several years ago. Detecting around it would be real tough! It was built on the side of the mountian, and the only flat areas are paved. Detecting the side of the mountian doesn't sound like fun to me!

My home is only about 10 miles from there, next time I go by there I'll shoot a few pictures and post them.

Here are the current pictures of that site- doesn't look like fun detecting to me!

I remember seeing this place on the news a while back that it burned down.

I agree. I went past there last year to see if it was easily accessible for detecting. Even with my rock climbing experience I deemed it to unsafe due to the fact that the guard rail was beat up pretty bad and that the hillside is real loose. I saw lots of metal nearby but mostly from autos.

I remember, growing up in Latrobe, taking day tips to that place. The back deck had those coin-operated binocular/ telescopes. The view was fantastic when it was clear.
