I know nothing about american civil war relics i just started. I found this metal detecting in a civil war site area. what is this? If its a fuse what type because ive never seen this type exploded ever. Is it practice? or battle american civil war relic. How old could it possibly be? Also how do i clean the dirt off without cleaning of the nice patina how do i clean it the correct way without ruining it. also hard dirt dirt. Is it a confederate or union slash yankee lol.View attachment 1917968 20210412_224828.webp20210412_224821.webp20210412_224814.webp20210412_224806.webp

If anybody here in the Civil War Artifacts forum cares to know... Bartshop also posted it in the What Is It? forum, where I identified it as a zinc civil war yankee Parrott artillery shell timefuze adapter-plug, and this "extra-long" version was made for use in Heavy Caliber cannons, not Field Artillery.
