Powerjet questions.

Hello all I have a few questions in regards to optimizing a 5 inch duel inductor Powerjet.

1. What is the optimum length of the Jet tube after the inductors jet in?

2. Why does flaring the discharge end if the Powerjet increase the jets efficiency and suction?

Any help is appreciated.

1) the optimum length is calculate as 10 the diameter of the hose . this gives it the maximum distance to gain its maximum water speed and suction. shorter can be used. 2) no idea on its intent!

1 is 10 or more, the deeper in the water, the more power more or less. 2 because it adds volume but what you are talking about is the flare. it widens and allows the gold to drop out of the current.

To gage the length is a delicate dance. If your pj is too high your jets hit air at the junction of the 2 streams and as air provides no suction,n you simply have a great waterfall and/or blows your box empty. Keep your box as close to water level as possible as lifting water/gravel up takes much power. The sweet spot, where jets of high pressure meet, should be at least a foot underwater on a 5". Then your pushing against the water inside to create your suction and not a bubbling frothing mess that will float away your gold and leave your box a mess. As all general rules of thumb you can only approximate as you are making your own jet and angle of incline ,width of flair, size of inductors , pumps/engine combos and a dozen other things predicate who ,what and where. Angle of induction should be 11-12 degrees to maximize your suction production. Lots a luck-John

Thanks for the info. I got to run the whole set up this past weekend with the entire homemade dredge. Well except for the motors and pumps. Suction was very good with the homemade power jet and she catches gold great too!

What did you use for a port size on the two inlets? and what was your total length of the jet tube from your water in to the flair?

2 inch necked down to inch and quarter. Total jet tube is around 50 inches I can measure it later when I get home. It's not a flare dredge went with a crack box due to size constraints.

Them grizzly bars over your modified Hungarians will cause much trouble catching rocks and filling box up with garbage. If you keep, just be extremely cautious and watch your box as nothing worse than being underwater and watching your new toy sink. Been there and done that--first thing in my mind was "now what are you doing here" hahahaha-.....John

It's a flat expanded metal crash plate. So far after running it for a three day weekend it cleans it's self very well and still catches very fine gold. Plus we always have a tender watching boxes.
