Prairie Flora & Fauna

My mom, sister and I went driving around on the prairie today.
The prairie wildflowers are in full bloom.
Lots of purple, yellow and green colors.

There are lots of buffalo babies running around everywhere, too.
We also saw a lizard and a plover(bird).
Its my favorite time of the year!

Cool! Green is my favorite color, I love this time of year, from now till June we drown in green, huh? I like the "face-on" buff, he's got an attitude. and I think the plover is an Upland sandpiper, they are common up there, and I think I see them most. Listen for them flying overhead, they make a ghostly sound. good Mountain boomer pic too, isn't that a female?

Great pics and always gettin better, scg. I like the mountain boomer pics too. It's hard to get one to sit still that long, and you do know those things will rare up and run on their hind legs? That would be a picture to get. And nature girl and I just lost everybody who didn't grow up in the country in Oklahoma with that 'mountain boomer' reference. Collared lizard.

Thanks Michaelangelo--those buffalo bulls were in a buffalo wallow and had just stood up and started to walk off single file--it made for a perfect picture!

Nope not driving, naturegirl, not yet

. I think green must be God's favorite color( or maybe blue, too). We were in the creek bottom when I took those pics of the trees and it was so lush and beautiful. I've never heard a sandpiper---I'll try to start listening when I see one flying. I don't know if that mountain boomer was a female :dontknow:

There may have been 2 lizards because I took one picture as we were going into the creek bottom and another as we came out. The lizard was still there but it looked different---are the males the only ones that change color? The second picture I took, the lizard looked green. Here's another picture--see what you think.

Yes, RGINN, I would LOVE to get a lizard running on its hind legs! I've seen them do that but have never got to take a picture. I sure do like my new zoom for the Canon! I was able to get that shot because of it. You sure can't get anywhere near those lizards otherwise!

Is a nice scene,Very wet and Rainy in SE kansas.
Iv,e lived in eastern Kansas most of my 46 years but have never been that close too Buffs.

I don't know why those rocks were like that, Steve :dontknow:

. My dad seems to think that its an old pipeline right of way. We found a U.S. Land Survey stake out by those rocks so maybe it has something to do with that? It was just a cool looking thing to take a picture of. (BTW--those are beautiful wildflower pics you posted!)

Hi Mont! Yes, its been kinda wet and rainy here in Northern Okla, too. When I took those pics of the Buffalo we were sitting in the Blazer. We don't ever forget they are wild animals and not to be trusted. They can spin around on a dime and be on top of you before you know it!
