Rod Smith, hospital, alive and well, NOT DEAD: Rod Smith is alive and well after his operation
As Rod Smith, 45, underwent a groin operation on Saturday, the devious hacker changed his Facebook status to: "Unfortunately Rod died this afternoon due to complications during an operation at Maidstone Hospital."
Shocked relatives were phoning up his mother and father throughout the day paying their respects to Rod - who they thought had passed away.
Mr Smith, from West Peckham, told his local paper that his dad came to pick him up from Maidstone Hospital and looked as if he had been "balling his eyes out".
He said: "It's not the sort of thing you want at their age with people ringing up and asking is it true? It's bang out of order."
"It is so sick that someone could do that. I was shocked. I couldn't believe it."
He said his kids would have been "devastated" if they had seen the message.
Mr Smith, hacked, cyber CYBER: Mr Smith's account was hacked [GETTY]
“It is so sick that someone could do that. I was shocked. I couldn't believe it.”
Rod Smith
Kent Police were informed about the incident and have informed Mr Smith to take up his concerns with Facebook.
Mr Smith's mother, Ann, 63, was being bombarded with calls on Saturday as a result of the hack and said she was "furious" with whoever did it.
She said: ""It was the last thing I needed as everyone rang up to see if it was true.
"If I could get my hands on whoever did this their lives would not be worth living.
"Rod's best friend was upset because he thought it was true. It's sick. The depths some people go to."
