preferred patterns for coins on etrac

I use it wide open and just use the sound and reading to decide what to dig. If the area is real junky, I use a modified beach program and sometimes go into 2 tone ferrous.

Agreed, the less descrim you an bear the more chance you have to hear a masked one.

If I get an iffy signal I switch over to quick mask and investigate. Sometimes when I do this I will see the ferrous numbers jump up to 35. If it stays lower than 27 I dig. Has anyone found silver read higher than 27 on the ferrous side? I personally haven't. I havent dug a good signal with a ferrous number higher than 21. But I only have a few months under my belt too.

I also use ttf and have found some good stuff in heavy iron. I agree it is great but when I can I prefer to hunt conductive multi tone. I just love that sound.

Don't get to hung up specific #'s, watch how and where the cursor goes. ;)

Bart, is this technique covered in Andy's book? I've only been watching numbers.

Been so long since i have read it I cant answer. If the cursor mainly goes up and down its a good chance its a masked target. Iron falsing tends to bounce all over the place.

Thanks Bart! I went and grabbed the book, looks like it's talked about on page 79. I've only used the Etrac for 5 hunts before my ground froze, so I'm trying to learn what I can in the winter months so I can hit the ground running when it thaws.

Smart man!

I'm also new to the Etrac. I've been mostly using the Bill_S park pattern in multi tone/conductive. I'm working on dealing with nails myself. What I have been doing that seems to be working is, when I get an iffy signal that has a good conductive coin number, I first pinpoint it and then see if I get a signal from exactly where it pinpoints, if not, usually the good signal is just off to the side of where it pinpointed, then I go to quick mask and as I swing over the target, I watch the cursor, if its jumping down into the lower right corner then back up to the coin slot, its almost always a nail. Not a fool proof method, but its working pretty well for me. As far as coins, I'm 5 hunts in with the etrac and i've dug 7 silver dimes and a bunch of indians and wheats. i'm around 160 coins so far with around 15 hours of hunting.I've only hunted our local park here and its been gone over hundreds of times in the past 40 years. So, I'm pretty pleased to be pulling out DEEP coins. I will start working with TTF after I get the park fully hunted using a grid and park pattern. I plan to open up the pattern on the next round and allow for rings and more jewelry. For me, its just easier doing it this way rather than to be overwhelmed by so many signals at once, as you get with Andy's pattern.

Using the Bill_S park pattern, I dig nickels like crazy. I've already dug 25 nickels including several buffs and 2 V nickels.

With that much discrimination you better move SLOW...... Talking 1 legged turtle slow.
