Holy Freaking COW!!!!!!!! When I am not writing and illustrating books or making records I dabble in real estate and in this market it is the perfect time to invest. So.....this morning I arrive at my latest conquest to give a once over as the tennant moved out on Sunday. I expected to see it in disarray...and it is, but anyway, as I looked throughout the house and took 'before' photos I rummaged through some old boxes of old news papers about NIXON and ELVIS etc. ....which I can post if you like. Well let me just preface that the house was previously owned by a lawyer and pilot....and quite a pack rat as well....so, anyway, as I was looking into a crawl space above the garage to check insulation and drywall, I saw a knife/dagger item and picked up...I assumed it was a toy, but it was very heavy....then I thought ....'Letter opener?'.....then I saw something that blew my mind....a SWASTIKA on it....The moment I got back to my house I began researching the item to see if it was a replica, but soon discovered that it WAS REAL and the handle color made it even more rare...it is what is known as a German "Nazi" Luftwaffe (Air Force) Officer's Dagger 2nd Model.......behold.

I would not try to sell on EBay they will cancel and still charge you the fee. The rules state no inflammatory symbols.

Of course, 'inflammatory' is relative. Any political type symbol is inflammatory to someone.

Ebay must not enforce this policy too much though, as there are lots of Swastikas in ads. Go to Ebay and type in "Nazi" or "Swastika" and you will see plenty. Mostly on coins, but some military stuff, too.

Well, regardless of what you do, that is a mighty fine blade.

Gee, what could you possibly do for the second act??? That is one heck of a find.

Great find.
Joy, Greed, and Happiness, are all relative

Go back and find the officer's Luger that was with it. ;D

DannyBrooks,

Nice find!

It's a nice, very expensive, rare piece of history. I know the few that I have seen for sale were up there in a price range that was not very comfortable for most of us average people.

I vote along with many of the others that you should keep it. It is piece of equipment from a period of time that engulfed a lot of the world in war. Most likely it was brought back from the war as a trophy, something many did including my grandfather; and my grandfather like many sold them or other items because they didn't want to dwell on something that they didn't want to remember.

Thanks for all of the positive comments, insight and emails.

what it would be like to find a piece of history like that one! ;D

Putting all the rhetoric aside, I'd suggest a thorough metal detecting of the entire property, inside and out side all buildings and storage areas. If nothing else you probably need the exercise. I know I do.

Have a great day!

Holy crap! That's worth a bundle. Great find.

Great Find.....even if it wasn't in the traditional THer's way.....digging it up.
My Dad brought back a couple of WW2 trophies, one of which was a German Army Officer's dress sword. Has some of the same markings,
and it is a mind-blower, too.
Enjoy your newfound treasure.

Really an awsome find, go poke around some more there may be something else there! Hidding somewhere !

As a matter of fact, some of the members of our club use a modified bayonet for their diggin' tool.......NGE

That would make an awesome digging tool

It would make a nice digging tool and probably the only one in the world that would have one as a digging tool...but what an expensive digging tool at $600 or more. There's one at the antique mall that I saw recently for $750.
