Hello all,

Just found this today (not even using my metal detector). It was lying on the surface and I guess the heavy rain we had these last days brought it up.

From what I gathered, this button or saddle tack commemorates the victory of Prince Of Waterloo over the French Army at Waterloo, in 1815. Sir Arthur Wellesley was made Prince of Waterloo that same year.

Now... If anybody can help me pinpointing the date (I guess it should be really close to 1815), tell who would wear this, and if it is indeed a button or saddle tack.

It was found in Westchester County, New York.

Also, I found another post here on TNet that describes a similar item but on mine, there is way more relief. It is not flat as the one on this post

... What do you think?

looks like a button! great find!!

Probably tack. I have seen both.

It's not conclusive just seeing the back because as I said both exist. My opinion was based on the broken back.

And for the record the buttons seem to be more common, at least from what I have seen over the years.
