Proved myself wrong today

I'd have to admit it when I'm wrong about something. I was wrong in my prior posts about the minimum weight of a roll to be opened. Today, I opened a roll that weighed 224.6 g and found a corroded 40% 1965 proof in the roll. Since the new release of 2001-D's that have recently flooded my area, it threw my whole theory about weighing rolls to find which ones to open off. Since a lot of these new 2001-D's are underweight as the planchets on many of them are very thin, they have effected my roll weighing.

Despite any of my previous posts on weighing rolls to determine which one to open, I stand corrected. I would now recommend that if you find keepers in a circulated coin box, open all rolls if you also find a bunch of underweight plancheted halves (mostly 2001-D's) mixed in the box.

I also live in the bay area and I also got a recent box of 2001d halves. It was about 50% new looking 2001 and was my first skunk box of the year. Do you think it is in all banks or just one bank? I think this is probably because too many crh guys are making a run on the banks and they are out of halves so they made some kind or order to the mint. Probably a direct result of the high price of silver?

I've been noticing that the 1996 and 1994 coins are really thin as well.

I would just bite the bullet, open every roll and at the least edge check.

Just ask yourself... How many 40%ers have you given away to people that actually look at the coins.

I never liked the idea of weighing rolls.

Of course it's because of CRHers. There's no other reason that people would order halves. Casino don't even use halves in slot machines anymore. Anytime, supply of coins are low, the banks order from the Federal Reserve. If the Federal's supply of circulateds are used up, they go to bags on new coins that they have sitting around.

Silver has dropped recently due to the Japan Earthquake news. Hopefully, people will stop CRHing.. in my area.. LOL

I have also been noticing plenty of real nice (if almost brand new) looking 1996 half dollars in my area. Also, plenty of BU looking half dollars from the late 70's and early 80's... not sure if this has anything to do with the large amounts of new looking 1996's.

I'm with you all on this one. I had 5 skunks in a row (which is why I haven't been post recently) but I have found a ton of BU '94, '95, '96' 97's! Sheeessshhhhhhhh!
