Went into a Chase yesterday for nickels and dimes, but they only had $10 of CWR nickels. Turned out one of the rolls had the elusive 1950D. As is typical with these, it is in uncirculated or nearly uncirculated condition.

Thanks for looking and HH.

I searched a gazillion nickels in the late 1960s. Bank rolls and the mom & pop shop I worked at. Guess what was the only unfilled hole in my Whitman album?

I mentioned this factoid in an earlier post : I believe one RedBook in the 1960s (maybe 1967 +/-) listed the 1950D at $50.

Funny you say that. I have been searching coins on and off since I was a kid in the 1980s and there were 2 in my album that were missing. The 1943D and the 1950D. Never found either until 2017 when I found the 1950D. Since then I have found 11 of them. I think what has happened as the older generation who either found them or paid the $50 for them has passed away, the coins have found their way into CWR. In 2024 I found 3 of them in one group of rolls and in 2025 I found 3 more in one group of rolls.

I dont have a record of when I first found the 1943D but it was the same sort of thing - sometime in the 2010s.

I lived on the East coast like you guys back in the 70's/80's and also never found one. It was only till I moved out west that I began to find them (three in total). People hoarded them back then so there were a lot fewer that migrated to the East.
