Pure Silver Bullion Coin from India, Found at Low Tide - Big Coin :D

Spent about 45 minutes hunting the low tide river front today. The highlight of the hunt was a big 20 gram pure silver bullion coin from India. Also found a $1 coin, and a few other things.

According to my research the Indian gods on the coin are called Laxmi & Ganesha. Ganesha is the elephant on the right. He is the Hindu patron of arts, sciences, intellect, and wisdom. Lakshmi is worshiped as the goddess of wealth.

Yes, when I'm eyeballing the area where the water meets the sand at low tide I often spot cool stuff on the surface. I also sometimes use a gardening hoe to remove the top layer of silt and rocks, but I didn't use that today.

I've seen that same 'coin' advertised as being 'German Silver'; like here:

'German silver' is a copper alloy with nickel and often zinc. The usual formulation is 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc; often it is sliver plated.
Still an interesting find whatever it's composition.

Still that coin you link to has a different reverse to the one I found and there seem to be many types of these coins, and from what I can tell many are made using pure silver. But you're probably right, it's likely just imitation silver. Still fun to find big shiny coins in the water

As you said, the 'coin' has many variations. You may wish to have your local jeweler verify .999 silver. With that obverse, I only found one that matched; and that's the one I referenced. Yours still may be .999 silver: I'm not familiar with the initials 'DJ' which precedes the .999 figure.

A little research later......... DJ was apparently the mark of Dix Jewellery, trading as Harrison Brothers & Hewson. They first registered at the London assay office in 1958; their registration expired in 2006. Perhaps this your mark.
