Found this small silver statue today at low tide. It depicts Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity. The statue is 1.25 inches tall and weighs 21 grams. It appears to have been hand-carved from a solid block of silver. Has red enamel on the crown. Maybe this thing will bring me good luck in the future :4leafclover:8-)

Hope it brings you luck! It obviously wasn't lucky for the last owner.

My research indicates that in the Hindu religion it is actually customary to throw the idols of their gods into the water after they have been owned for a number of years. They believe that the material the idol is made of must eventually return to the Earth just as humans and animals die and return to the Earth. The idols are usually made of clay which dissolves in the water and then the following years the clay containing the remnants of the past idols is dug up and made into new idols. But sometimes the idols are made of metals such as copper, silver, or even gold and so do not disintegrate and just remain wherever they are thrown forever. If the idol is found and removed from the water by someone other than the person who threw it in it is considered to have been reborn and its powers return. To make the Lakshmi idol work its prosperity-giving magic you must pray to it at least once a day and occasionally toss some food into the water - for the water is where the spirits live - and apparently they get hungry. :read2:
