I found this token on 2/9/09 at a site that was an old Mill town. The site was established in the late 1800's (probably after 1890) and I've found other items with dates in the teens.

I've done some research on this token, but can't seem to find info. I did find a reference to Purity Dairy, which is still in operation, but no mention at all about a branch in Elko, Nevada.

I'm hoping someone can help out with information. Thanks for looking!

This token is listed in the Hoskins, Schilling, & Dun Nevada Trade Tokens book. Their estimated valuation was $15. From the looks of it, I would estimate that it dates from around 1930.

John,

Thanks for the ID. Your info matches what Richard Greever of www.tokencatalog.com/ found for me. He said its listed in Melvin Reiters Dairy Token catalog, and thought 1930 was reasonable, +/- a few years. He also confirmed a printed value of $15. Doesn't matter because I wouldn't sell it anyway.

mountainplayer,

Sounds like you got the I.D.

Also, thanks for the link.

Ummm, Plebah??

Couldn't agree more. I was asked to visit a dairy to see if I could help them with wastewater treatment. They gave me the tour. When I saw how they "disinfected" the udders, I stopped consuming any kind of dairy for almost a year (and man, I love ice cream).

Don't even ask me how they diverted the milk from the cows with mastitis....
