I found this purse/cosmetic bag on a site that has mainly produced articles from the early 1800's. The inside actually as a round mirror that fit inside the round opening. The mirror was inside the pouch in three pieces which i was able to glue together. I see many mesh purses from the 1920's but none have the ornate piece on the top. Wondering if anyone knows what purpose and what period it was from. The ornate top piece is about 3 1/2 inches across and the bag about 5 inches long. Thanks in advance.

Chatelaine vanity purse. It's none of your business what a lady carries in it! :tongue3:

Could this have been a flapper thing?

This purse is from before the "Flappers" era. A chatelaine purse was hung from the waist band of a skirt or from the waist belt.

Flapper dresses typically have a dropped waist or no waist at all. They couldn't wear a chatelaine purse. Besides, they were mostly out of fashion by the 1920's.
