You have to like quartz if you hunt RI. Tough, tough lithic, many crude points result. Hunt long enough and nice ones show up now and then. Here are a few better quartz points....

More well made quartz points. The broken triangle is grey quartz crystal; would have been a killer, as would the other "shattered glass" quartz crystal.

Some real beauties there! Thanks for showing!

I like the ones you can almost see thru.... Especially in the sunlight . The area I grew up in is the same way..... Quartz everywhere my collection from there is probably 90% Quartz. So you can imagine the excitement when I come across a nice flint point !!

Nice points! I find mostly chunky crude quartz. Those have nice smooth lines. Tony

I'm blind now!! Nice array of quartz Charl!!

Yes, I can. Before I joined the artifact forum, I thought it was actually only predominant here in New England. Wrong! And I thought most collectors looked down on quartz. Partly because we can't help but tire of white, white, white.
But, in fact people around the country like quartz more then we realized. And honestly, how can one complain about any decent point, regardless of material?

Anyone can feel free to add nice examples of quartz from elsewhere to this thread.

Gosh, those are pretty! thanks for sharing

Someone had mentioned to me yesterday that it's too bad quartz was such a difficult lithic, resulting in crude points. It's true, can't argue. But, one, some knappers can do a bad job with the best material, and two, some guys could bang out some nice points with quartz. So thought I'd show a few good ones. Thanks for your comments.

I just don't find enough quartz points here but find a whole one every once in a long while. Most of them are broken when I pick them up. Here is a few I have been lucky enough to find. N GA

it's true Charl-- some could knock out some very VERY nice points. Thanks for showing yours!

Consider yourself lucky, rock. Nothing wrong with quartz, but you have nicer materials down your way. Thanks for showing those.

I Have to disagree as well.... I have found some Quartz pieces that the craftsmanship is as good as any. Here are a few I found ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1430614910.402334.webpheres a broke drill would have been nice .... Thanks, Nice to see some of your better, best quartz finds all together. Some of those are just beautiful pieces.

There are few quartz points in my area, and they and typical thick points. I dont have many, especially personal finds... There is quartzite here, much more common to find a point made from that than quartz... I kinda wish to find more made from quartz actually...

arrow86, those are some outstanding quartz points and styles. But that crystal drill is just super, like pure glass! Love it! Thanks for that show.

I do find some yellow quartz and other color quartz. Most around here are quartzite but these are the harder types. The redish one I found last week it is probably a thick knife. The yellow one is my best for 2014.

I really like that yellow quartz piece, rock. Nice find. It reminds me of this, but in this case, it's quartzite and not quartz.
