First, I'm new to detecting. I just got a Quattro off eBay about 10 days ago and have spent about an hour a day trolling my back yard since then. I've had some success finding a ton of pennies, a few dimes (one mercury), and a quarter. Everything I've found has been about 4 inches down. Being a good student possessing Andy Sabisch's "Mastering the Quattro" book I decided to try the coin garden. I buried a penny, nickel, dime, and quarter all about 6 inches down in my vegetable garden. I didn't bother throwing dirt over the tiny holes that I dug and made sure none of the coins were on their sides. The results or lack there of floored me. My expectation was to be able to pick up clear signals and be able to hone in on pinpointing. Instead...not a single signal for any of the coins. I have the detector set to Coin mode and haven't made any adjustments to sensitivity or anything else besides volume and noise cancel. There are power lines within 30 feet and I never bothered removing any other metal from the garden before conducting the test. Any suggestions? Should I try all metal and crank up the sensitivity?
