Question about a cheap Radio Shack 1000 model

I got a cheap used Radio Shack 1000 model, works really good. Its my very first detector until i can bribe the wife for a new one

My question is,, how deep would this detector scan into sand? Or dirt? Do the signal waves scan through differently in different types soils?

Why dont you just test it? Much better than waiting for someone to give you an answer. You can test different coins in different soils at different depths, then you will know what your machine can do.

One of the first things I do with a new detector is to bury different metal objects at different depths to get a "feel" for the detector.
