Question about detecting

If it's metal, it will beep. Hence the name "metal detector" ::)

Naturally you can play with the disc. control, and knock out certain conductivies relative to their size, if you want (foil, tabs, etc...). But that's not the same as whether or not it's picking up certain KINDS of metal though. For example, if you disc. out a tab, you will get a reject sound, right? But if you wave an entire aluminum can in front of the coil, you WILL get a beep, right? Notice that the metal is the same composition in both the tab, and the can: aluminum, right? So size plays into it.

I know you have a budget, just don't cheat yourself on buying cheap detector. You wont be sorry. It will pay for itself in no time.

Ditto !! :icon_thumleft:

Buying a metal detector, is a lot like buying a coin for investment.
When buying the coin, buy the best grade coin your budget will allow
you to buy.
Buying a detector is basely the same. Only you don't need to buy a
detector with all those bells and whistle's, to get a good one. Kellyco
has a good selection of detectors of low price, mid price and high end.
A good number of the mid priced ones will do as well as the high end,
or higher priced ones.

Depending on your machine each metal will have a different signature in pitch, or in VDI. If you are just starting out an ACE 250 is a moderately priced detector with many good features and many of the hunters here use them as a primary, or secondary instrument.
