Hi all. I have had my ATP just over a year now and have a question. In order to run in " all metal mode " should iron audio be enabled with disc set at 0 ? Benefits or detriments in these settings? Thanks for responses.

Just run pro zero with no disc and iron audio off. Iron audio is for checking signals when you have iron disc'd out. You will get a little more depth and a whole lot of talk in' with no disc at all though in a trashy spot.

iron audio has nothing to do with discrimination, it just affects audio response characteristics on targets in the zero thru forty range. I never use IA. I run my pro "all metal" 100% of the time: IA off, pro mode, iron scrim zero, notch everything in, and rely on the three tones. I like to hear the iron chatter for some reason.

Thanks guys. That's how I have been using mine. Today I turned the IA on in a field and seemed to be getting tones in areas I wasn't getting any with IA off, so I just wondered about it. Thanks!

Why have disc at zero? anything under 40 is going to be junk/relic unless you like digging up metal objects or so that is my understanding, but then I like looking for coins and jewelery:coins: I use the IA when I want to confirm if a suspect tone is iron or not, I use it over the 40 disc and usually tells me if there is iron mixed with my good tone target.

It all depends on where you are hunting. If you're doing someone's yard or a park/school grounds, you aren't interested in the iron. BUT, if you're in the middle of nowhere ( woods or a huge field ) and trying to find an old homesite that hasn't been on a map for hundreds of years or at least since anyone living can remember, you look for the iron to give you a hint of where it stood.

mid tone ( pull tabs ) bothers me more that iron tones lol...

Plus the more iron you disc out the more targets you will miss from target masking. When your rusty nails are silent that good coin in them will be too. But disc at zero or just at or one number above the nails you will have a better chance to pick a good coin or target out. However the rusty iron with make the good conductors read a little lower. Thats why you dont run disc at 40.[emoji106]

Ok say you run your disc up to 20. From 0-20 will be silent 21-40 will be iron grunt. 50-60 something medium tone. 60 something to 99 high tone. With them settings if you cut iron audio on 0-20 is a grunt now where it was silent. 21-60 something now all become a medium tone. your high tone range remains the same. All it does is makes your disced out iron have sound and extend the medium tone to you iron disced level. Hope this helps.
