I thik i have been tossing out my flour, when i have seen a gold colored lile form about a half of an inch behind my concentraces when panning, i was thinking this was light matrial that was suspened in the water, but i think i'm wrong about that now?
this is my first atempt at panning: and was ale to get a few pickers, and hints would be apperciated, thanks in advance.

Get a magnifying glass so you can get a close look at whats there, some of them even have little lights attached.

:icon_sunny: Run--don't walk to your nearest gold store or local yokel club and find out what your doing. Trying to talk something like this out is purt' near useless. You'll meet fine folks too. Post your city for help!!Tons a au 2 u2 -John

Thanks for the input; this has been lots of fun so far.

When I first got involved with this gold obsession (way beyond just a hobby) I visited a local coin dealer and asked him to show me some unrefined gold. From there, I joined a local prospectors club and began to talk with the people who were out and about finding gold. One thing I have learned, people may not want to talk too much about the exact location they are finding gold, but they are happy to show you their finds. Nothing like seeing the real thing to focus your eyes on what to look for down on the river.

This morning I spent 2 hours on the river before work. By sunrise I was knee deep in the Kern River. I found a few specks and fed the gold fever beast. As I was walking to my truck a small flock of Canada geese flew over. IMO, there's something awe inspriing about an animal that big and beautiful flying overhead. My finds this morning won't cover the gas I used getting to the river and back, but there is a lot more to this gold prospecting than cashing in.

When you have that line of light colored material in your pan lightly swirl the remaining water in the pan over it if it remains in place as the sand washed down it's probably gold, gold is heavier. Also you can tap the upper edge of the pan and the gold will move up not down. There are a number of videos on line that may help too.
